  • Boulder City Nevada. This city was born due to the need to house the workers on the Boulder Dam - the "Hoover Dam." The city certainly has a quaint look of yester year.

  • This was taken from inside of the Hoover Dam. This is one of the old diversion tunnels. The water in the pipe feeds the turbines, for the alternators. The water was passing by at 80,000 gallons per second - believe me, you could feel the power.

  • Mojave National Preserve - Kelso depot. Kelso was a Union Pacific Depot that was at the bottom of a 10 mile long 6%? grade. The grade is so steep that in the steam days, a "helper engine" was needed to get trains up the hill. Kelso had a source of water for the engines. This depot housed rail workers, and was the center of the community. It was built in 1905, used till the 1960's, and refurbished in 1992. Diesel changed all that. It is now a national park station. The "lunch room" is not in use - it was for the workers. You can have a seat at the counter, though.

  • These dunes are some of the few that "boom." They make a low moaning noise that is the result of the friction of the moving sand. They were booming when I took this photo. Awesome.....

  • New Vegas meets old Vegas. The Frontier was torn down in November 2007, to make way for a Palace Casino (the same group that owns the palace hotel in NYC.). The Frontier was the site of Elvis Presley's first Las Vegas show in 1956. Many people were sad to see it go.
